In this lesson plan, ’Genre vs Genre’, your students will learn a thinking strategy for comparing and contrasting as they THINK about the significant and important similarities and differences between two different purposes for writing (genre). Then they will PLAN & WRITE to other students to report on the significant similarities and differences so it can be used as a resource for the class throughout the year.
- THINK ON MONDAY: Think deeply in a variety of curriculum and real life contexts as they learn a deep and careful thinking strategy for an important thinking skill. This skill can then be added to their thinking toolkit and applied across a range of other curriculum and real life contexts.
- PLAN ON TUESDAY: Ask questions to plan to write for a specific audience and purpose. These questions are transferrable across all writing tasks and will set them up for success whenever they have to write.
- What is the purpose for writing and who is the audience?
- What structural and language features does this purpose typically have?
- What ideas should I use?
- How will I organise my ideas?
- What vocabulary will I use?
- WRITE ON WEDNESDAY-FRIDAY: Experience writing for a real purpose and a specific audience. This makes the task more relevant and meaningful, and equips students with skills and understandings about writing that they will continue to use throughout their lives.
